Swallowing Services
Our ENT Specialists and speech pathologists evaluate many different swallowing complaints including:
- Feeling something stuck in the throat
- A lump in throat feeling
- Coughing and choking when eating and/or drinking
- Food getting stuck when swallowing
- Regurgitation of food or liquid during or after swallowing
- Discomfort with swallowing
Sometimes a swallowing problem can be evaluated by simply observing the patient eating different consistencies of foods or liquids. For example, our speech pathologist, specializing specifically in swallowing disorders, is trained to pay attention to simple things that happen, even when a person is just swallowing their own saliva. This is a good way to start the process of figuring out what is going on when someone swallows.
